The Barolos were ready to be consumed while very young, in principle very accessible and friendly. Nevertheless only a few selections of Barolo could stand long shelf life. The Barolo 1974 Fontanafredda shows an extremely pleasant “drinkability” thanks to the origin of the grapes, mostly coming from the village of Serralunga (area famous for giving Barolos packed with great structure and suitable for a long ageing due to the particular features of the soil, poor and calcareous). The wine has a beautiful garnet color with orange reflexes. Notes of spices, cinnamon and nutmeg prevail in the very fine bouquet, well knit with hints of licorice and dried porcini mushrooms. In the mouth the wine shows freshness, thanks to the lively acidity and tannins.
